With the first practical installation of the new LoviX® R cable joint (splice), Lovink Enertech reinforces its role as a reliable partner in the development of future-proof network components. In collaboration with a Dutch grid operator, the new joint was recently installed in a medium-voltage network – with convincing results!
The energy transition is placing increasing demands on medium-voltage networks. Reliability, durability and faultless installation are no longer preferences, but essential requirements for a stable network. To optimally support grid operators in this challenge, Lovink Enertech recently launched the LoviX® R cable joint (splice): a new generation of joints that excels in mechanical strength, watertightness and ease of installation. The first field installation took place in June in Beek (Netherlands).
Practical test in realistic conditions
The field trial was carried out on a 20 kV connection between two XLPE cables with a cross-section of 240 mm². Two jointers installed a total of three joints (splices). A technical expert from the grid operator was present to observe and provide advice where needed. The first installation was supervised by Lovink. For the second, the team worked independently, and for the third they only consulted the manual to verify measurements.
The results speak for themselves: the final LoviX® R jointwas installed in just 45 minutes – including cable preparation. The jointers praised the simplicity and speed of the process, comparable to traditional coldshrink joints/ splicing systems.
Simplicity, comfort and quality
According to the jointers , the LoviX® R cable joint stood out for its ease of installation. They highlighted the flexibility of the spiral in the coldshrink body, as well as the smart packaging in which all parts were clearly arranged. The included disposal box for waste was another practical addition that helped keep the work area tidy.
The verdict from everyone present – including several interested colleagues from the grid operator – was unanimous: the joint looks solid, has a clear structure and inspires confidence. “That is exactly the goal of the LoviX® R,” says Frank van Lent, Project Manager Product Development at Lovink Enertech. “We want jointers to work with confidence. That not only improves quality, but also enhances safety and speed in the field.”
Designed for the future
The LoviX® R cable joint has been specifically developed to meet the evolving demands of the power grid. Thanks to a combination of coldshrink technology, an ABS housing filled with Protolin®, and integrated field control, the joint offers long-term protection against moisture, thermal stress and mechanical impact. It is therefore ideally suited to meet challenges such as grid reinforcement, climate change and decentralised generation.
The joint has been extensively tested in accordance with CENELEC HD 629 and IEEE 404 standards and meets the highest international requirements. “With this test installation, we have not only confirmed the technical performance, but also proven that the LoviX® R delivers exactly what it promises in real-world conditions,” says Van Lent.
Building reliable networks together
Lovink Enertech believes in sustainable cooperation with grid operators – not only by delivering products, but by bringing together expertise, support and innovation. The first field installation of the LoviX® R cable joint is a powerful example of this: an innovative solution that immediately demonstrates its value through industry collaboration.
The LoviX® R cable joint is now available in various models for conductor cross-sections from 95 to 630 mm². The R70 model for larger cable diameters will follow in 2026. Would you like to see the LoviX® R in action or plan a trial installation? Then get in touch with us!
