Smarter Branching with LoviSil® – How Lovink accelerates complex projects

Many project engineers are unaware of the possibilities offered by Lovink’s LoviSil® KB branch joint. Yet this solution proves to be a real game-changer in times of capacity pressure.

The energy transition is putting enormous strain on grid capacity. Especially in areas where medium voltage plays a crucial role, the demand for smart and reliable connections is greater than ever. Traditional solutions for cable branching are often cumbersome, labour-intensive and costly. But there is another way. In practice, Lovink’s LoviSil® KB branch joint has proven to be a far more efficient route.

Efficient solution for a rail infrastructure project

In a recent rail infrastructure project, where the grid operator was responsible for the connection, there was an urgent need to quickly establish a reliable branch. The challenge? Limited capacity and workforce pressure. A traditional solution with multiple joints, additional components and long installation times would have put capacity under severe pressure.

Gerard van de Klundert, technical specialist and closely involved in the execution of the rail project: “Lovink’s LoviSil® single core branch joint provided an efficient solution. This joint allows three cables to be connected with ease — in this case 2x 400mm² and 1x 150mm², at a voltage level of 18/30 kV.”

From instruction to execution

Together with the project manager, technical specialist and field technicians, Lovink provided a detailed explanation of the operation and installation of the LoviSil® branch joint. Thanks to this guidance – combined with the technicians’ experience – the installation went smoothly.

The result: a fast, robust and above all space-saving connection, achieved with significantly fewer resources than a traditional solution would require. No cumbersome detours, no long installation times.

The hidden strength of LoviSil® technology

The LoviSil® technology in transition and straight through joints is a proven and reliable solution. For many years, this technology has ensured durable and high-quality connections within medium-voltage networks. The use of liquid silicone for electrical insulation, in combination with outer shells filled with Protolin® resin, results in mechanically robust and watertight cable joints. In addition, LoviSil® branch joints have been successfully applied for many years in sustainable energy projects, including wind and solar farms.

Gerard van de Klundert: “The application possibilities of the LoviSil® KB branch joint are still not widely known. Yet especially in times of scarce capacity and high time pressure, this technology offers major advantages.” A particular benefit is flexibility: larger or even temporary connections are possible, such as a transition from 25 mm² to 400 mm² in a single joint.

Interesting facts

  • Een bijzonder pluspunt is de flexibiliteit: ook grotere of tijdelijke verbindingen zijn mogelijk, bijvoorbeeld een overgang van 25 mm² naar 400 mm² in één mof.
