LoviSil® cable joint: perfect technology for the chemical industry
Lovink Enertech’s cable joints have been successfully used in petrochemical installations for years. For a large international EPC contractor, the universal applicability for heavy industrial cables and the chemical resistance, in addition to training and certification of technicians, were decisive reasons to choose LoviSil® technology.
A solution for all cable types
In 2015, a Senior Electrical Engineer from a renowned EPC contractor was looking for a cable joint that was suitable for the renewal of medium-voltage substations and routes. The requirement: one technology for all types of cables in petrochemical installations, ranging from 3 to 30 kV, often equipped with additional armourings. LoviSil® met all the criteria.
Chemical resistance of resin
After extensive presentations and research, LoviSil® was chosen. The chemical resistance of Protolin® resin turned out to be an important added value. If a joint is exposed to chemicals due to a calamity, the connection remains optimally protected. This is a crucial requirement in the oil and gas industry.
Preliminary work pays off
Today, LoviSil® joints are used as transition, straight through, cross-bonding and loop joints. For each connection, Lovink and the engineer involved determined the correct socket configuration. Ron Tiedink, Account Manager at Lovink Enertech, explains: “Compiling such a list takes preliminary work, but simplifies the ordering and assembly process.”
Circular applications in the petrochemical industry
Lovink worked with the engineer on the implementation of new circular cable types, such as high-voltage cables with aluminium sheath as a substitute for lead. Through cooperation between cable supplier, EPC contractor and Lovink, a solution was created to connect these new cable types to old GPLK cables. The result? Complete satisfaction of all parties.
“The guidance and willingness to think along makes the collaboration with Lovink Enertech successful,” says the engineer involved.
