Are you the student who will rethink cable joint sealing for the future of energy?

Thesis assignment – Design a new concept mechanical seal for underground conditions

Lovink Enertech produces, develops and supplies medium voltage cable joints filled with electrical insulation and synthetic resin for the energy sector, industry and the renewable energy market. Lovink has developed its own synthetic resins which meet the advanced requirements for application in medium voltage cable joints. The state-of-art resin technology of Lovink provides advantageous features to electrical cables such as mechanical strength, electrical insulation and water protection.

The assignment is to design a new sealing concept or housing for one of our joint types, which deviates from the standard technologies commonly used in the medium-voltage market. The design must be capable of sealing a range of cables in line with the specifications of the individual cable joint.

Lovink products are characterised by their ease of installation. A clear definition of installation-friendliness is available from Lovink and should be used as a guideline in the design process. Additionally, attention must be paid to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aspects, for example by applying the LiDS wheel (a Life Cycle Assessment model). Finally, the design must take manufacturability and cost efficiency into account.

Required knowledge:

  • Education Level: HLO or HBO or University degree
  • Major subjects: Mechanical engineering of Industrial Product Design.

Duration: Graduation assignment for 4 or 6 or 9 months.
