LoviSil® transition joint solution at new sub-stations Cape Town

The South African energy company City of Cape Town is replacing several sub-stations in Cape Town. For the connection between existing PILC cables and new plastic cables, LoviSil® transition joints from Lovink Enertech were chosen – a proven solution for complex networks.

Challenge: linking old and new cable technology

The existing stations are equipped with PILC cables, while the new situation requires polymeric cables. This requires a transitional joint that:

  • Universally applicable
  • Prevents paper lead cables from drying out
  • Reliable performance at 36 kV

The LoviSil® joint meets all these requirements thanks to the silicone mass that protects the cables from drying out and moisture penetration.

Professional assembly and collaboration

The installation of 3-wire and single-core 36 kV transition joints was carried out by CBI-Electric Power Installations, an experienced contractor in South Africa. Lovink Enertech and distributor KBK Power Solutions supervised the process. The result? A successful installation and satisfied teams from both CBI and City of Cape Town Electricity.

Advantages at a glance:

  • Universally applicable for paper insulated and plastic cables
  • Protection against dehydration and moisture
  • Suitable for 36 kV applications
  • Guidance by experienced specialists
