LoviSil® extended cable joints for heavy cables
For the English energy company Western Power Distribution, Lovink Enertech LoviSil® developed extended cable joints to reliably connect heavy cables with Cu band or Cu wire screen. This innovation offers flexibility and sustainability in complex networks.
Challenge: thick cables with Cu band screen
In the service area of Western Power Distribution, 3-core connections with Cu band or Cu wire screen are regularly found. These heavy-duty cables are thicker and require more space for correct grounding. The existing resin room in the LoviSil® K105 was not sufficient for this.
Solution: Extended Cable Sleeve
Lovink Enertech extended the cable entry by 160 mm to create enough space. Because the number of joints required was not large enough for a new mould, a smart solution was chosen:
- Integration of extensions in ABS
- Strong bonding with existing cable joints
- Extensive strength tests for maximum reliability
Successful delivery and application
In the second half of 2013, Lovink Enertech delivered the first 1,000 extended cable joints, both connection and branch joints. This solution proves to be reliable and efficient for heavy cable connections.
