LoviSil® transition splices offer solution in Venice

Venice regularly suffers from flooding and a high groundwater level, which causes disruptions in electricity grids.These conditions are typical for waterlogged cable environments where splice reliability becomes a critical factor. Challenge: water and grid failures

The lagoon city is sometimes up to 70% under water. Malfunctions are common with cable splices based on heat shrink technology. This was reason enough for Lovink Enertech to look for a better solution together with grid operator ENEL.

LoviSil® transition splices: waterproof and reliable

The LoviSil® splices uses liquid silicone technology. Upon contact with water, a flexible, insulating rubber forms that prevents moisture penetration. Advantages:

  • Suitable for wet soils
  • Reliable performance at high groundwater level

Successful test assembly in Verona

In collaboration with ENEL and two contractors, two transitional joints were successfully installed. Export manager Dennis Jansen explains:
“The high groundwater level was visible in the weld hole, but the technicians were very pleased with the simple assembly technique.”
Additional advantage: three single-core 1-phase cables can be splicing in one housing, where three splices are normally needed.
