LoviSil® cable joints for wind farm Northern Germany
LoviSil® 20 kV cable joints were recently used to connect wind turbines to one of the largest wind farms in northern Germany. This solution not only offers reliability and durability, but also scores excellently on waterproofing – a crucial factor in this project.
Challenge: high water level at high tide
The ‘Elbdeich’ wind farm is located on the lake side of a large dam, which means that cable joints can be flooded at high tide. The LoviSil® cable joints are specially designed for these conditions:
- Triple moisture barrier
- Withstands 2 bar test pressure
- Perfect protection of the electric field
How does the waterproof cable joint work?
The LoviSil® technology combines several layers:
- ABS outer sleeve for mechanical protection
- Sealing wrapping tape and Protolin® polyurethane resin for long-lasting moisture shielding
- Silicone seal between outer and inner joint
- Liquid silicone insulation for sealing to the electric field
Suitable for future grids
The patented liquid LoviSil® insulation offers:
- Minimum breakdown resistance (E = 21kV/mm)
- Perfect and long-lasting insulation
- Resistant to high temperatures
- Suppression of partial discharges (corona)
Ideal for modern distribution networks with multiple stressors and renewable energy feed-in.
Successful assembly and training
The LoviSil® cable joints were used for connections from 300 mm² to 500 mm² XLPE cables. Training was provided by our German partner ICP. The end customer was very satisfied with:
