LoviSil® cross-bonding joints make cable network reliable
Lovink Enertech recently solved a significant problem at an energy company in Germany. The company had been struggling with an unusually high number of malfunctions and high measured settlement flows for some time. The LoviSil® cross-bonding joint not only offered a reliable solution but also saved a lot of costs.
Challenge: Failures and Ohmic Losses
In the underground route there are 3 x 1-core connecting joints and above ground the routes/pipes of the railway network cross. For a while, replacements took place after failures with cold shrink sleeves. These were possibly caused by the thermal stress on the cable due to the high equalization currents. The company went in search of a joint that could control the ohmic losses and guarantee an uninterrupted electricity supply.
Advantages of LoviSil® cross-bonding joint
Lovink Enertech offered a suitable solution with the LoviSil® cross-bonding joint. One of the wishes was to replace the old MV joints one on one, without the use of extra connections. This could also be achieved through the LoviSil® technology. The current joints have been dismantled and the cable has been separated exactly at the connector, after which the new connector has been mounted. The cross-flush construction is built by connecting the earth screens of the 1-core cables crosswise with each other.
New concept tested
Lovink Enertech trained the technicians for this LoviSil® cross-bonding technology and supported the initial installations. Dozens of joints have now been replaced and the first measurements show minimal losses. In short, the energy company is very satisfied with the use of the LoviSil® cross-bonding joint and is introducing a new concept for load distribution in the cable network.
