Successful introduction and training on LoviSil® branch joints in Australia

Lovink Enertech successfully completed a comprehensive introduction and training program of the LoviSil® 11 and 33 kV branch joints at South Australia’s Electrical Utility, SA Power Networks.

Modern day replacement

South Australia’s Electrical Utility, SA Power Networks, recently saw the need to look for an alternative solution to replace their existing PILC cable branch joints located in Adelaide. The old lead cable joints are still in use today in some locations. Although a worthy testament to their quality and craftsmanship given the age of these joints, they represented a challenge when seeking for a suitable modern day replacement.

A dedicated solution

SA Power Networks was looking for 11 kV and 33 kV branch joints which would ensure the future serviceability of the old cables, and at the same time offer a high level of Mechanical and Water Ingress Protection. The new branch joints should be easy to install in a limited work space area and ideally would not require an additional 3+ meters to temporarily park tubes.
After working closely with Network Standards and Field Engineers at SA Power Networks, Lovink Enertech offered the LoviSil® KB branch joint which met all of the above criteria as well as offered the benefits of total flexibility in the cable types, sizes and configurations.

Successful training and demonstration

Jason Abela (Australian agent for Lovink Enertech) in conjunction with Lovink’s Senior Product Specialist and Trainer Frans Hartwig provided the necessary training on the LoviSil® branch joints.
The training and demonstration was successfully completed and afterwards a combined team consisting of field and training personnel as well as engineers evaluated the application in detail. They also attended a typical site location to assess any further in-field requirements. This may open futher opportunities to work together successfully.
